WiMAX Telecom, a WiMAX licensee for the northern region of Taiwan, plans to kick off its WiMAX service at the end of the second quarter or early in the third quarter this year, according to company president Teddy Huang.
WiMAX Telecom will complete the installation of its first-phase WiMAX infrastructure with 100 WiMAX base stations in early June, enabling the firm to begin trail operations, Huang noted.
By the end of this year, the company plans to increase the number of its base stations to 200-500, while the number of its WiMAX service subscribers is expected to reach 30,000, Huang projected.
WiMAX Telecom also plans to expand its capital from the current NT$1 billion (US$32.7 million) to NT$1.5 billion in the near future, and it welcomes equity investments from strategic partners such as Intel, Huang stated.
