The three leading Taiwan OEM handset makers – Compal Communications, Arima Communications and Inventec Appliances – posted mixed earnings results for the first three quarters of this year, with Inventec Appliances enjoying a 50% on-year earnings growth, while Compal saw earnings decline and Arima recorded losses, according to data available at the companies.
Inventec Appliances reported that its after-tax earnings for the first three quarters reached NT$2.38 billion (US$73.5 million), up 50% on year and also higher than the NT$2.06 billion recorded for all of 2006, according to company data.
Inventec's net EPS (earnings per share) for the January-September period stood at NT$5.15, compared to NT$3.44 a year earlier.
Compal saw its revenues and after-tax profits decline 28% and 25%, respectively, on year to NT$38.26 billion and NT$3.09 billion in the first three quarters, with its EPS also sliding to NT$5.50 from NT$7.81 of a year ago, although its EPS remained the highest among the three makers, according to company data.
Arima continued to post losses for the fifth consecutive quarter in the third quarter of this year with losses standing at NT$42 million, or NT$0.11 per share, the company reported. Combined losses for the first three quarters of this year amounted to NT$475 million, or NT$1.31 per share, the data showed.
