Vibo to purchase up to 500,000 handsets in 2008

7 January 2008
Taiwan-based 3G operator Vibo Telecom expects to purchase 400,000-500,000 handsets, valued at NT$3 billion (NT$92.6 million), in 2008, according to company president Feng-hsiung Chang.
Vibo also expects the number of its 3G subscribers to double to 1.2 million in 2008 with one million subscribers to be active users of its services, Chang stated.
Chang estimated ASPs (average selling prices) of smartphones and general-function mobile phones to decline to US$400 and US$100, respectively, in 2008 and consequently, the declines in ASPs will help reduce telecom operators' subsidies to subscribers.
