Despite the global slowdown, Arima Communications expects its handset shipments to reach 13 million units in 2009 as did in 2008, thanks to growing orders from LG Electronics (LGE), according to company chairman Stephen Lee.
Shipments to LGE alone will account for 8-9 million units this year, making the Korea-based vendor the OEM handset maker's largest client, replacing Sony Ericsson, estimated market sources in Taiwan.
Arima shipped 9.5 million handsets to Sony Ericsson in 2008, contributing 52% to Arima's total revenues for last year, company sources revealed.
Having shipped more than 10 models to LGE since 2008, Arima is also expected to ship 4-5 new handsets, which are all built on handset platforms from MediaTek, to LGE in the second half of 2009, noted the sources.
